Description: SALESVILLE – Night was arriving on Monday, Sept. 25, when Greg Corkin hooked into a good fish at Gene’s Trout Dock on the North Fork River below Norfork Dam.
Corkin carefully worked the fish in the river’s cold waters on his 4-pound-test line and landed it. He had a dandy, a brook trout that is a potential new Arkansas record. Corkin’s fish weighed 4 pounds, 12 ounces, and it was verified by trout biologist Stan Todd of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Wildlife officer Chris Majors witnessed the weighing.
Corkin was using a sculpin, a small bait fish found in mountain streams, for bait. His brook trout was 19.75 inches long and 13.5 inches around the middle. His record replaced the 4-pound, 6-ounce brook trout caught in 1999 on the Little Red River by Donald Burns of Heber Springs.
